Organizing the organizers 101
That’s Queer Nation’s Ken Kidd in the pink suit telling Human Rights Campaign (HRC) street organizers that the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) only bars employment discrimination and has a religious exemption that lets all religiously-affiliated employers discriminate against LGBT people. HRC is pushing ENDA in Congress. Luke Ellenberg from GetEqual had the same message. What we need Ken and Luke said is comprehensive federal civil rights legislation.
Ken and Luke were pitching the HRC volunteers outside The Stonewall Inn on Christopher St. where the US Department of Interior announced today that it will launch a project on LGBT history.
Also pictured are Queer Nation’s Ann Northrop, Cathy Marino-Thomas, former board chair of Marriage Equality USA, and Tanya Domi of GetEqual pausing between their conversations with guests about the need for comprehensive federal civil rights legislation. Major donor Tim Gill, City Councilman Corey Johnson, and others heard from them.
Also shown is Ken chatting up guests at the May 28 fundraiser thrown by Immigration Equality. We estimate that 500 people have heard from us this week.
