It is time for comprehensive federal civil rights legislation that will protect LGBT people from ALL forms of discrimination.
Comprehensive federal civil rights legislation, such as the Civil Rights Act of 1964, will ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in:
Housing
Employment
Public accommodations
Education
Credit
Federally-funded programs
Will give LGBT people access to the protections in Title VI of the Act
Comprehensive legislation will have a limited religious exemption that allows discrimination based on religion only
The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) bans discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in:
Employment only
ENDA has a religious exemption that allows any religiously-affiliated employer; including hospitals, schools, universities, and charities; to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity
