This is What Bad Legislation Does
Thirty-four House members, all Democrats and some longtime allies of our community, have asked Pres. Obama to not include a sweeping religious exemption in his proposed executive order barring federal contractors from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.
That’s the same religious exemption found in the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), legislation that all 34 signatories on this letter are sponsoring.
So Democrats, which side of your mouth should we listen to? The side that opposes a sweeping religious exemption in the executive order or the side that supports it in ENDA?
If you choose to support legislation that gives the same rights and protections to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people that are currently granted to all other Americans, you won’t have this problem. As long as you support ENDA, you’ll never get away from its stench.
