Queer Nation NY statement on Coca-Cola’s “It’s Beautiful,” diversity Super-Bowl commercial.
“The LGBT community already has a gay version of a Coca-Cola ad and it’s been a viral sensation, as Coke well knows. At more than 90,0000 views on YouTube it has been embraced by people in 170 different countries around the world.
It’s nice that Coke has made another ad, but if reports are true it only aired in LGBT-friendly western markets that’s a shameful act. Coca-Cola still has not lifted a finger to help the persecuted LGBT community of Russia. And that will remain a stain on their brand for years. Coke needs to come out of the Russian closet with the company’s support for all LGBT peoples’ human rights.
